  • Guru Nanak Jayanti is observed on the full moon day of Kartik month, also known as Kartik Poornima.
  • On November 19, 2021, Guru Nanak's disciples will mark Guru Nanak's birthday.
  • On this day 552 years ago, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first of the ten Sikh gurus, was born.
  • Guru Nanak is a Sikh guru who was born in Punjab, India (1469-1538 AD)


  • Biography of Guru Nanak Dev:
  • Guru Nanak Dev (1469-1539) was born in Talwandi Rai Bhoe, a village near Lahore (it was renamed later as Nankana Sahib).
  • He pioneered interfaith contact in the 16th century, meeting with most of the religious denominations of the time.
  • The fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev's literary writings are included in the Adi Granth (1563-1606).
  • It is known as Guru Granth Sahib after the additions made by the 10th guru Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708).


  • Guru Nanak's Teachings:
  • Universal Peace and Harmony Guru Nanak was a strong supporter of equality.
  • He aimed to create a casteless, hierarchical society.
  • He was unconcerned by caste, creed, religion, or language distinctions or many identities.
  • "Caste is absurd, and birth distinction is stupid," he had declared. The Lord is a safe haven for all creatures."
  • The Guru Nanak questions women, "How can they be inferior when they give birth to men?" Women and men both benefit from God's grace and are held to the same standard by Him."
  • A constant subject throughout Guru Nanak's songs is the concept of living together and working in harmony.
  • Three Sikhism pillars were established by him: Naam Japna, Kirat Karni, and Vand Chakna.
