Exam Dates for IAS 2024:

The UPSC generally releases the exam calendar for the year in advance. For the IAS Exam 2024, here are the expected dates (subject to change, so always check the UPSC website):

- Notification Release: February 2024
- Preliminary Exam (Civil Services Prelims): May 2024
- Main Exam (Civil Services Mains): September 2024
- Interview (Personality Test): To be announced after the Main Exam results

Eligibility Criteria:

To appear for the IAS exam, candidates must fulfill certain eligibility criteria:

1. **Nationality:**
   - Must be a citizen of India, or
   - Must be a subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
   - Must be a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

2. **Age Limit:**
   - Minimum age: 21 years
   - Maximum age: 32 years (relaxation in upper age limit for reserved categories as per government rules)

3. **Educational Qualification:**
   - Must hold a degree from any university incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Exam Pattern:

The IAS exam consists of three stages:

1. **Civil Services Preliminary Examination:**
   - Objective type (MCQ) questions
   - Consists of two papers: General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II (CSAT)
   - Paper I evaluates general awareness and current affairs
   - Paper II (CSAT) tests comprehension, interpersonal skills, logical reasoning, and analytical ability of the candidate
   - Both papers are qualifying in nature (marks of Paper II not counted for qualifying for Mains)

2. **Civil Services Mains Examination:**
   - Descriptive type questions
   - Consists of nine papers: 
     - Paper A (Compulsory Indian Language)
     - Paper B (English)
     - Essay
     - General Studies I to IV
     - Optional Subject Paper I and II (chosen by the candidate from the list of optional subjects)
   - Papers A and B are of qualifying nature; marks of the other papers are counted for the merit rank

3. **Personality Test (Interview):**
   - Conducted by the UPSC board

Syllabus:

The syllabus for the IAS exam is comprehensive and covers diverse subjects. Key areas include:
